■What are Water Line, Buttock Line and Transverse Line directions?

The Water Line direction means the height direction of the car, the Buttock Line direction means the width direction, and the Transverse Line direction means the front and rear direction.



■Why Water line, Buttock line, Transverse line?

Why are they called Water line, Buttock line, and Transverse line? Water line and buttock line were originally marine terms, and water line refers to the line on the water surface when a boat is floating on water. The direction in which the water line moves (height direction) is called the water line direction.

The stern section of the ship when viewed from the side is called the buttock. From there, the direction in which the side section moves (width direction) is called the buttock line direction.

The direction in which the line that crosses the car from front to back moves is called the transvers line direction.
