■What is PLC communication

PLC (Power Line Communications) uses power lines as communication circuits. The act of transmitting power through communication circuits, video transmission cables, etc. is called power overlay.

The power supply superposition circuit is shown below. By installing a coil in the power supply line, the high frequency communication component is removed, and by installing a capacitor in the communication line, the low frequency power supply component is removed, making it possible to effectively separate the two signal components with different properties.

■Advantages and Disadvantages of PLC

The advantage of PLC is that it can reduce costs by using cables for communication circuits and power. The disadvantage is that it is susceptible to noise and is not suitable for high-speed communication. The advantages of PLC can be utilized when low-speed communication is sufficient.

■Applications of PLC

PLC is not good at high-speed communication and is not suited for network communication, etc., and is not widely used in general, but PLC is widely used in chargers for electric vehicles.
